Taken from the album "Cabaret at the Kingsley Leisure Club" released on Kingsley Leisure (KLC101) in 1978. This curious compilation album features a number of artistes who appeared on the bill at the Kingsley Leisure Holiday Camp at Westward Ho! in Devon. In its original form, the music is a frighteningly mixed bag, so alongside the angelic tones of the pubescent vocalist Kellie bestrides the Fat-Elvis gurning of Mr. Graham Brown and the Sinatra-sizzle of your one and only host for the evening, Ken Arnold. Also spicing up the chicken-in-a-basket was the ABC Hit Band, strategically placed to keep the teenagers at the camp happy by cracking off a couple of disco super-smashes. Of the two, their rendition of Magic Fly just misses out: featured here instead is their bristling take on the Deodato funk-a-thon, guaranteed to send granny back to the chalet early while the kids cut some rug. Nothing else is known about the band themselves, apart from the horribly re-touched promo photo on the album sleeve. Shame, for their moment has arrived. |
