Keith Lloyd

Keith Lloyd was a Birmingham based keyboard player who is known to have accompanied many top stars of the day as they made their way through the clubs of the West Midlands. The likes of Bob Monkhouse, Frankie Howard and Les Dawson all used Keith as musical director to their stage shows at some point during the late 1960s and early 1970s and Keith maintained a residency on the Woman Today BBC TV programme.

Unfortunately, apart from the information contained on the sleeve notes to his "This is My Life" album, little else is known about Keith Lloyd and his band, which featured Geoff Cox on drums, Barry Peacock on Bass and Mick Large on guitar. The album was recorded at Zella Studios in Edgbaston in 1974, and released on the label of the same name. This was owned and run throughout the 1960s and 1970s by Johnny Haynes, but alas is no more - Johnny having sold the studio to soft rock behemoths Magnum in the 1980s. During this time local Asian musicians were regular customers at Zella studios, and perhaps hundreds of traditional Asian recordings were produced there.

Keith Lloyd - This Is My Life

An early incarnation of Black Sabbath produced a 45 on Zella Records and a large number of aspiring beat combos and hard rock bands of the period are known to have made use of Zella Studios.

It is thought that Keith Lloyd passed away some years ago. Johnny Haynes now teaches at a local college.
